Freshwater pearls, as opposed to saltwater pearls, which are grown in oysters, are the princes and princesses of mussels.  Freshwater pearls, similar to their extremely expensive, salt water cousins, come in a variety of shades, however unlike their cousins, whose price has rocketed since many of the oysters escaped during Covid,  as they were not able to maintain their habitats, and the emergence of a newly identified virus, which has decimated production in the Akoya Oyster stocks. 

Now seen as a unisex commodity - with men as well as women, of all ages, are recognising their beauty, salt-water and fresh-water pearls are now appreciated by all.
